Metro’s Transit Accessibility Center (TAC) is here to answer your questions about Metro accessibility and help you find the services you need.
What you can do at the TAC
These are just some of the ways the TAC can help make Metro accessible to you:
Get, renew, or replace a Reduced Fare Smart Trip Photo ID
- Get or renew a Reduced Fare Smart Trip Photo ID for people with disabilities
- Get a temporary Reduced Fare Smart Trip Photo ID for visitors with disabilities.
- Replace a lost, stolen, or damaged Reduced Fare Smart Trip Photo ID. It costs $10 the first time you replace your card ($25 if you replace it again). Bring a valid government-issued photo ID when you come.
Register and manage Metro Access
- Complete your registration for Metro Access and get your Metro Access ID, by having your interview and assessment.
- Manage your Metro Access EZ-Pay or Instant Access accounts, including password resets, updates to personal information, or requesting a trip history.
Register for Metro Lift
- Register for Metro Lift, our program for riders with reduced incomes.
Appointments for IDs
If you are coming to the TAC to get or renew an ID, you should make an appointment first. You can come without an appointment, but you might have to wait a long time.

Training and outreach
TAC trainers are available to help you understand all the accessibility features Metro offers, and how you can use them to travel safely.

Visit the TAC in person
The TAC is located at Metro’s headquarters near L’Enfant Plaza.
It has its own separate entrance accessible from the sidewalk, at 655 Virginia Ave SW, Washington, DC 20024, near the corner of 7th St SW. It is located one block south of the mezzanine elevator at L’Enfant Plaza station (Blue, Green, Orange and Silver lines), on the opposite side of 7th Street.
For your privacy, some TAC services can’t be provided by phone; they require you to make a request in writing or visit the TAC in person.
