Parking
Parking options and how to pay
We have you covered with various parking options at 51 Metro stations. For parking locations and daily parking availability, visit your station page.
- Pick up/Drop off area (Section A): If you just need to pick up or drop off someone, use our Kiss & Ride lots. Look for "Section A" 15-minute parking spaces marked for driver attended waiting only.
- Short-term hourly parking: For short trips, you can pay by the hour at Metro Kiss & Ride Lots via ParkMobile app, credit card, or coins at the pay stations (parking is free on weekends and federal holidays for Metro riders). To pay with the ParkMobile app, enter the “Zone Number” and “Space Number” identified on the nearest parking sign, and select the approximated amount of parking time. A ParkMobile service fee will apply. Check posted signs for available hours.
Our Kiss & Ride lots have dedicated motorcycle spaces.
- Daily parking: Pay one flat fee and park all day at 40 Park & Ride locations across Metro. Pricing varies by location, and a non-rider fee may apply (parking is free on weekends and federal holidays for Metro riders). Customers have the following payment options (note, ParkMobile cannot be used for daily parking):
- Smart Trip: Load money on the same Smart Trip account to pay for your Metro ride and parking fee. Paying with Smar Trip ensures you receive the discounted rider rate (at applicable locations).
- Credit card: Pay for daily parking at all stations using credit cards. A higher, non-rider fee is applied at 13 stations if you pay with a credit card instead of your Smart Trip or Tap. Ride. Go (at applicable locations).
- Tap. Ride. Go.: Metro is expanding Tap. Ride. Go. to all parking facilities, which allows customers to tap their same contactless credit or debit card that they used on Metro Rail and receive a discounted rider rate (at applicable locations). View the tracker to see which parking facilities currently accept Tap. Ride. Go. payments.
To receive a rider rate, you:
- Use your contactless credit or debit card (physical or mobile) to pay for your returning Metro Rail ride
- Tap that same payment for parking (don't swipe the old reader)
- Leave the parking lot two hours from the start of your ride
- Monthly reserved parking: Metro offers premium, guaranteed parking at 40 rail stations for a monthly fee of either $45.00 or $65.00 (plus the regular daily parking rate, which varies by station). Reserved spaces are close to the station and elevators/stairwells, saving you time spent looking for parking. Spaces are available until 10 am for permit holders. After that, all open spaces are available for general use. Visit our Reserved Parking page to learn more and apply for a permit today.
- Multi-day parking: Planning a longer trip? Metro has four stations that offer a limited number of long-term parking spaces in designated areas (up to 10 days on a first-come, first-served basis, with no additional charge beyond the regular fee): Greenbelt, Huntington, Franconia-Springfield, and Wiehle-Reston East.
- Special event parking: Park at Metro for an event, even if you choose not to ride. Select stations offer a $15.00 Special Event Parking Fee during events at SECU Stadium and Northwest Stadium for non-riders.
