Postponing Collection of Nine-Digit Social Security Numbers
While WMATA remains committed to ensuring that our systems and facilities are secure from unwanted incursions, we also appreciate the issues raised by many in our community regarding the collection of PII. Given those concerns, WMATA will postpone implementation of the new process requiring contractors to provide a full nine-digit Social Security number. In the interim, contractors will be permitted to continue entering only the last five digits of their Social Security number while WMATA evaluates the appropriate balance between protecting PII and fulfilling our responsibility to ensure the safety and security of our systems and facilities.
