What is the Capital Bikeshare?

Capital Bikeshare (“CaBi”) (operated by Lyft) is metro DC's public bikeshare system, with more than 5,000 bikes available at 650 stations across seven jurisdictions: Washington, DC; Arlington, VA; Alexandria, VA; Montgomery County, MD; Prince George's County, MD; Fairfax County, VA; and the City of Falls Church, VA. Capital Bikeshare provides residents and visitors with a convenient, fun and affordable transportation option for getting from Point A to Point B.

What is the promotional offer and how long does it last?

After you have signed up for the promotional offer, and upon confirmation of your eligibility, Metro will securely share the phone number you provided with Lyft Bikes and Scooters, LLC. (“Lyft”) to issue the promotional credit for ten free 30-minute classic CaBi bike rides to the Capital Bikeshare or Lyft account linked to the phone number you provided, to be used within 30 days after receipt of communication from CaBi regarding offer activation.

Promotional offer only applies to 30-minute classic CaBi rides: overage, e-bikes, taxes, and out of hub fees will be charged separately.    

Promotional offer does not provide additional benefits to CaBi users with annual membership.

How do I use the Capital Bikeshare app/bikes?

What determines eligibility for the promotional offer?

You must have a valid SmarTrip® account and a virtual SmarTrip® card

You must live in and have a valid billing zip code from one of the seven member jurisdictions: Washington, DC; Arlington, VA; Alexandria, VA; Montgomery County, MD; Prince George's County, MD; Fairfax County, VA; and the City of Falls Church, VA.

How long does it take for me to receive the promotional offer after I sign up?

Your Capital Bikeshare or Lyft app/account linked to the phone number used to sign up for the promotional offer will be credited within five (5) business days of completing sign up.

I loved using Capital Bikeshare! How can I keep riding after the promotional offer?

I am getting an error message when I attempt to validate my eligibility for the offer. Why is that?

In signing up for the offer, WMATA verifies that you meet all eligibility conditions. If you are receiving an error message while attempting to sign up, then you do not meet one of the eligibility conditions. The exact error message should indicate which of the criteria you do not meet.

What will you do with my data?

At Metro we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personally identifiable information. We will share only the phone number you provided to sign up for the promotional offer with Lyft via a secured file transfer during the promotional period to facilitate distribution of promotional offer linked to that phone number.
