Rules For Riding Metrobus
The metropolitan DC area is a bustling city. People are on the move and often forget to be courteous. Below are the rules when riding Metrobus.
- No eating or drinking on the bus.
- Hazardous materials are not allowed on the bus.
- Accidents can happen at any time. Don't stand close to the curb as the bus approaches to service the stop.
- While the bus is in motion, don't speak with the operator.
- Position yourself behind the standee line.
- Standing in the rear door will cause the interlock alarm to go off. Move a few feet back to not block the area.
- Priority seating is for Seniors and persons with disabilities. Be courteous, and remember to offer your seat.
- When the bus approaches a stop, remain seated until the bus comes to a complete stop before exiting.
- Be courteous. Allow passengers to exit prior to boarding.
- Board at the front entrance of the bus, and exit through the rear. Let's remain on the go.
- Close your stroller before boarding the bus, and secure your child on your lap or seat.
- Keep aisles clear and free from personal belongings and strollers.
- To avoid an accident, don't stretch your legs or place bags in the aisle.
- Loud conversations on cell phones and playing loud music aren't polite. Be discreet and use a headphone instead.
- Be cognizant of your surroundings. Report any suspicious activity. See something. Say something.
- To avoid theft, keep electronic devices hidden.
- Persons with disabilities should board buses first.
- Service animals are allowed on buses. Place small pets in a carrier.
- When buses are crowded, do not carry backpacks on your back.
