Metro continues to move forward with capital projects announced last fall while preparing the region to go back to work. As customers return to Metro, riders at Rockville Station will notice increased construction activity. Once the dust settles, customers will experience many improvements at the station.

Rockville Canopy Replacement Project

Aside from the ongoing Rockville Pedestrian Bridge rehabilitation project, Metro is excited to announce new details of the Rockville Canopy Replacement Project slated to start this fall.

  • Crews will demolish and rebuild the aging canopy structure over the Rockville platform. As a result, Rockville and Shady Grove Stations will be closed from September 11 – December 4, 2021. Customers will notice pre-construction activities in late summer. Please follow posted signs.
  • Metro will provide free shuttle bus service between Shady Grove, Rockville and Twinbrook Stations.
  • The new platform canopy will retain the same historic design of the initial platform canopy, a classic look that customers have come to know and love.
  • Customers will enjoy enhanced safety and security benefits when the new canopy is constructed, including modern lighting and new public service announcement speakers.
Additional details on alternative travel options will be announced in summer 2021.
