Splitting Light, 2024
Jessie and Katey
Paint on board

Splitting Light includes seven large painted panels that fill the arches over the doorways fronting Western Avenue. The artists created a mural that harmonizes a bold geometric pattern inspired by the existing architectural forms. Each arch is divided to capture the interplay of light and shadow, with gradients and colors that flow across the piece, evoking a sense of movement and energy.
Jessie Unterhalter and Katey Truhn is a Baltimore-based artist team better known as Jessie and Katey. They have been creating large-scale, public murals and installations across the country since 2011.
The temporary art project is funded by the Friendship Heights Alliance and is presented in collaboration with Metro's Art in Transit Program.
