Synopsis

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) requires the services of a qualified contractor (data processing and analysis services) to provide detailed estimates of passenger movements through the bus and rail systems. The resulting Passenger Movement Analysis system (“PMA”) will combine bus and train movement data (automatic vehicle locations systems, or “AVL”) with SmarTrip data (automatic fare collection, “farecard” or “AFC” data), and bus automatic passenger counter data (“APC”) to infer the details of each passenger’s movements which can then be aggregated to examine crowding, train loads, and other operational concerns.
