Synopsis

SYNOPSIS

THIS IS A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI) NOTICE ONLY AND YOUR RESPONSE IS NOT AN OFFER. THIS RFI NOTICE DOES NOT COMMIT WMATA TO ANY INCURRED COSTS IN PREPARATION OF ANY SUBMISSION TO THIS NOTICE, OR TO CONTRACT FOR PRODUCT OR SERVICES.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this RFI Notice is to determine the interest in participation of potential qualified firms providing extended brake life technology meeting the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) requirements. Firms are strongly encouraged to provide comments, questions, and suggestions relative to the project scope, and technology and approach.

SCOPE

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is contemplating the installation of extended life brake technology on its New Flyer fleet with drum brakes to improve the safety and reliability of the buses. The technology will be installed on 25 New Flyer Model SR1151-1166, Fleet Numbers 2801-2825.

WMATA is seeking a contractor that can offer extended life brake technology with and providing brake lining warranty of 100,000 miles for rear axles and 150,000 miles for the front axles. The installation of extended life brakes technology will vastly reduce maintenance cost and increase productivity by allowing WMATA’s bus fleet to run longer with less schedule maintenance.

SUBMISSION INFORMATION

It is expected that a Request for Proposal will result from this RFI. If your firm is interested, please provide the following submittals: (1) a detailed technical specification of the product; (2) Documentation demonstrating testing and the usage of the product at a transit authority in North America; (3) a detailed description of the length of the product’s warranty and warranty procedures, to include any exclusions; (4) submit a statement of your firm’s business capabilities to demonstrate the ability to provide the product and services required; (5) describe in detail any benefits the product could bring to WMATA’s Office of Bus Maintenance; and (6) provide documentation the product meets the Buy America Requirements under 49 CFR 661.

Please provide the above information no later than 2:00 p.m. on March 18, 2015, via email only, to Ms. Ruby S. Coley at rcoley@wmata.com. The submission must be clearly marked in the email subject as “RFI No. 02232015/RSC, Extended Brake Life Technology.”
