Metrorail Snowmelter System Upgrades
Request for Information

View the Request for Information here.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) is in the planning phase to potentially upgrade our Metrorail snowmelter systems. Metro uses snowmelter systems to enable above-ground transit rail switch machine operation (i.e., switch point movement) during and after snow and ice weather events.
Metro has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to identify available options and technologies to consider for replacement of above-ground switch snowmelter systems across the Metrorail system in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia.
Metro seeks to understand how the industry can provide cost effective solutions that will address maintenance concerns, improve operational resilience during inclement weather events, and enhance energy efficiency and savings. The RFI includes questions related to the snowmelter systems design, manufacturing, implementation, and maintenance
