Metrobus service changes effective December 13 to modify routes, improve reliability

Metrobus schedule adjustments, trip eliminations and modifications to existing bus stops will be made on select Metrobus routes in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia beginning Sunday, December 13, 2015. 

As Metro advances its Better Bus initiative, enhancements to existing Metrobus service will provide faster travel times and improved on-time performance throughout the region.

Among the highlights of service changes effective December 13:

  • Route 3A will be renamed the 3A Annandale Road Line and weekend service will be shortened to operate between Annandale and East Falls Church Station. Saturday, Sunday and holiday service will be extended to Seven Corners Transit Center.
  • Service along Lee Highway between East Falls Church and Rosslyn stations will be provided by Arlington Transit (ART) route 55.
  • Southbound bus service on the 90, 92 and 93 U Street-Garfield routes to Anacostia and Congress Heights stations will permanently reroute on Florida Avenue NW at North Capitol St NW, on First Street NE at Florida Avenue NE and on First Street NE at O Street NE to resume regular route.
  • Bus stops located on North Capitol Street at P Street NW and on New York Avenue at First Street NE will be discontinued.

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

30N, 30S Friendship Heights-Southeast

  • New timetables will reflect adjusted trip times to improve service.

31, 33 Wisconsin Avenue

  • New timetables will reflect adjusted trip times to improve service.

32, 34, 36 Pennsylvania Avenue

  • New timetables will reflect adjusted trip times to improve service.

62 Takoma-Petworth

  • The 3:40 p.m. trip departing Coolidge High School will now depart at 3:25 p.m.

64 Fort Totten-Petworth

  • The northbound bus stop on Missouri Avenue at New Hampshire Avenue NW will be discontinued. 

90, 92, 93 U Street-Garfield

  • Southbound bus service to Anacostia and Congress Heights Metrorail stations will permanently reroute on Florida Avenue NW at North Capitol St NW, on First Street NE at Florida Avenue NE and on First Street NE at O Street NE to resume regular route.
  • Bus stops located on North Capitol Street at P Street NW and on New York Avenue at First Street NE will be discontinued.

D32 Deal Middle School

  • New timetables will reflect adjusted trip times to improve service.

P12 Eastover-Addison Road

  • New timetables will reflect adjusted trip times to improve service.

S1 16th Street-Potomac Park 

  • The southbound bus stop on 16th St at Riggs Rd NW will be discontinued. 

S2, S4 16th Street 

  • The southbound bus stop on 16th St at Riggs Rd NW will be discontinued. 

S9 16th Street Limited 

  • The bus stop on K Street at 13th Street will be added as a southbound S9 stop. 

X3 Benning Road

  • Eastbound bus service to Minnesota Avenue Metrorail station will permanently reroute on Florida Avenue NW at North Capitol St NW, on First Street NE at Florida Avenue NE and on First Street NE at O Street NE to resume regular route.
  • Bus stops located on North Capitol Street at P Street NW and on New York Avenue at First Street NE will be discontinued.

MARYLAND

F4 New Carrollton-Silver Spring

  • Eastbound trips leaving the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center in Silver Spring will be rerouted to take Wayne Avenue to Georgia Avenue to Colesville Road.

F14 Sheriff Road-Capitol Heights

  • New timetable will reflect the elimination of some timepoints. The number of trips will remain the same and all existing bus stops will be served. A timepoint is a stop along a route that a bus, if early, waits at until the departure time shown in the timetable.

J2, J3 Bethesda-Silver Spring

  • New timetables will reflect the long-term detour through downtown Bethesda.

J7 I-270 Express

  • New timetables will reflect the long-term detour through downtown Bethesda.

P12 Eastover-Addison Road

  • New timetables will reflect adjusted trip times to improve service.

VIRGINIA

3A Lee Highway-Falls Church

  • Weekday service shortened to operate between Annandale and East Falls Church Metrorail station.
  • Saturday, Sunday and holiday service will be extended to Seven Corners Transit Center.
  • Revised route will be renamed 3A Annandale Road Line.
  • Service along Lee Highway between East Falls Church and Rosslyn Metrorail stations will be provided by Arlington Transit (ART) route 55.

3Y Lee Highway-Farragut Square

  • Service will be extended to operate between East Falls Church and Farragut Square Metrorail stations.
  • Service along North George Mason Drive, Patrick Henry Drive and North Harrison Street will be discontinued.

17B Kings Park

  • The southbound bus stop on Braddock Road at Glen Park Road will be discontinued.

17L Kings Park Express

  • The southbound bus stop on Braddock Road at Glen Park Road will be discontinued.

18H Orange Hunt

  • The southern terminal bus stop located on Field Master Drive north of Old Keene Mill Road is discontinued and a new stop will be located on Old Keene Mill Road east of Field Master Drive.
  • Buses will no longer cross Old Keene Mill Road on Field Master Drive.

26A Annandale-East Falls Church

  • Buses will operate every 30 minutes during a.m. and p.m. peak periods.

REX Richmond Highway Express

  •  New timetables will reflect adjusted trip times to improve service.

S80 Springfield Circulator (TAGS)

  • New timetables will reflect adjusted trip times to improve service.
