Get your wheels spinning, a new Bike & Ride facility opens at Grosvenor-Strathmore Station

Additional construction planned for joint development

Metro announces another step to improve transit connectivity and sustainability with today’s opening of a new Bike & Ride facility at Grosvenor-Strathmore Station. The Bike & Ride facility will enhance and expand the first and last mile connectivity for customers at the station, making it easier to connect to the larger Metro system.

Cyclists will be able to store their bikes at the station, with one less thing to bring on the train. The facility will provide a safe, secure location with room for up to 100 bikes and features video monitoring, emergency call boxes, and repair stands equipped with tools and air pumps for an enhanced and safer customer experience.

To access the Bike & Ride facility, customers must have a registered SmarTrip® card with Metro. Then, customers can sign up for free, unlimited access to use Metro operated Bike & Rides at wmata.com/bikeandride.

Metro has seven additional stations with Bike & Ride facilities including: College Park U of Md, East Falls Church, Herndon, Innovation Center, Vienna, Wiehle-Reston East, and opening soon at Potomac Yard Station.

The Bike & Ride and other customer improvements at Grosvenor-Strathmore are part of an ongoing joint development project with Fivesquares JDA at Grosvenor Metro, LLC (Fivesquares) to create a mixed-use neighborhood including residential and commercial development at the station.

Joint Development Construction Changes

Kiss & Ride Lot Reconfiguration

To accommodate the joint development, Metro’s south Kiss & Ride Lot will be temporarily closed – except to through traffic – beginning Dec. 11, 2023, and reopening late January in a new configuration. During this time, approximately 25 spaces will permanently close to create a new Central Park adjacent to the Kiss & Ride which will have 10 parallel parking spaces along the curb. Customers should use the north Kiss & Ride Lot for pick up and drop off activities while the south lot is closed.

The joint development project with Fivesquares will transform the land adjacent to the Station with a 2.2 million square foot arts-focused residential community that inspires engaged, healthy living with Strathmore Performing Arts Center, Rock Creek Park, and Metro. The first multifamily buildings and a new Central Park at Grosvenor-Strathmore are expected to be complete in Spring 2024. More information about the joint development at Grosvenor-Strathmore Station is available on the project website.
