Metro advises Green and Yellow line customers of parking restrictions and weekend closures at four stations ahead of summer platform reconstruction
Metro notifica a los usuarios de las líneas verde y amarilla sobre las restricciones de estacionamiento y los cierres durante los sábados y domingos en cuatro estaciones antes de la reconstrucción de plataformas de este verano
As Metro continues its accelerated Platform Improvement Project during this period of low ridership due to the pandemic, customers on the Green and Yellow lines will begin to see preconstruction activity on February 20 at stations scheduled for reconstruction this summer.
At West Hyattsville, Prince George’s Plaza, College Park-University of Maryland, and Greenbelt stations, construction crews will be staging heavy equipment and materials that require the closure of surface parking areas and Kiss & Ride lots ahead of the summer construction. Three weekend shutdowns will also be necessary at the stations to conduct site testing, prepare the platforms for demolition by installing shoring, removal of mezzanine and ceiling tiles, concrete cleaning and more prior to the summer work beginning on May 29.
Weekend service February 20-21, April 17-18 and May 1-2 will operate as follows:
- No Yellow and Green Line service at Greenbelt, College Park, Prince George’s Plaza, and West Hyattsville.
- Yellow Line trains will operate between Huntington and Mt Vernon Square only.
- Green Line trains will operate between Branch Ave and Fort Totten.
- Free local shuttle buses will be provided between Greenbelt and West Hyattsville, stopping at all stations. Limited stop service will operate between Greenbelt, College Park and Fort Totten; and between Prince George's Plaza, West Hyattsville and Fort Totten. (View shuttle map)
Parking & Bus Relocation

On February 20, 300 spaces in the Park & Ride Lot at West Hyattsville will close for approximately one year. Reserved and accessible parking spaces will not be impacted.
About the Platform Improvement Project
The platform work is necessary to address years of concrete structural deterioration that, left unaddressed, could pose a safety risk to riders. Metro will use the time to make improvements that enhance customer experience with a higher level of safety, accessibility and convenience. Key renovations include new slip-resistant tiles throughout the stations, brighter energy-efficient LED lighting and illuminated handrails, new stainless-steel platform shelters with charging ports and digital map/information displays, and new Passenger Information Displays (PIDs) with larger digital screens to improve visibility.
