Platform Improvement Project

Beginning Saturday, May 23, all nine Orange and Silver line stations west of Ballston-MU will be closed and no Silver Line trains will operate in the Metrorail system.

Platform Reconstruction Underway

All nine Orange and Silver line stations west of Ballston-MU are currently closed and no Silver Line trains are operating in the Metrorail system. Silver Line stations between Ballston-MU and Largo Town Center are being served by Orange and/or Blue Line trains.

During the shutdown, Metro is combining this summer’s platform reconstruction work at Vienna, Dunn Loring, East Falls Church and West Falls Church with a separate project on the Silver Line to connect Metrorail to the new "phase II" stations, which are being constructed by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA).

On August 16, Silver Line service will resume and West Falls Church Station will reopen for rail service.

Free express and local shuttle service is available during the shutdown.
