West Falls Church Joint Development Project
Advisory Effective: 10/14/25 - 8/1/27
Parking Impacts
As of Nov. 17, 2025, the north parking lot at West Falls Church has been closed to allow for construction activity. Customers may utilize the onsite parking garage for the duration of the project.
On November 17, 2025, Metro will begin construction on the West Falls Church Joint Development project. The project will transform underutilized land into a vibrant, mixed-use, transit-oriented neighborhood featuring improved station area accessibility and transit facilities for people who choose to ride Metro.
This project is the result of a multi-year planning and public engagement process that will enhance transit ridership, improve accessibility, and contribute to regional economic growth. The development will take place over four phases, with the first phase consisting of transit infrastructure improvements, and later phases consisting of construction of residential townhomes, apartments, offices, retail, and open green spaces.
The following improvements are included as part of this project:
- Transformation of underutilized Metro parking lots into mixed-use, walkable communities with the potential for over one million square feet of office, retail, and residential space including a commitment to affordable housing units
- New and improved transit infrastructure including a streamlined bus loop, new bus shelters, and a reconfigured Kiss & Ride for customer use
- New tree-lined streets that connect Metro with existing and new communities around the station and Route 7
- Improved circulation and connectivity for people walking, using a wheelchair, riding a bicycle, transferring from a bus, or driving a car to access the station
- New site lighting, security cameras, and license plate recognition (LPR) technology in the garage
- Improved site stormwater management using low impact development tools
Customer Impacts
Metro will communicate with customers about impacts through tactics such as informational and directional signage issued 14-30 days in advance to socialize these changes:
- As part of phased work, bus service will be relocated to the western bus bays until the new bus loop and shelters are built in 2026.
- Phased construction activity will lead to permanent closures of surface parking spaces, with total Park & Ride capacity to be reduced through the life of the project.
- The first floor of the parking garage will be closed for several months to allow for reconfiguration of the entrances to the parking garage. Access to the upper level of the garage will be maintained during the ground floor closure.
- The Kiss & Ride will be temporarily relocated to the northern surface parking lot during construction.
- Interim sidewalks, traffic pattern changes, road detours, and lane closures will accommodate construction activity and staging at the West Falls Church station site.
