U Street / African American Civil War Memorial / Cardozo Station Canopy Installation

On November 17, 2025, Metro will begin Phase 4 to install the canopy above the station escalators at U Street/African American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo Station.

Metro is installing canopies as part of an ongoing project to replace or install nine canopies across the Metrorail system by 2026. Canopies shield customers and escalators from weather conditions, helping to protect the life, longevity, and reliability of our escalators.

How will this work affect my trip?

Work on the canopy will take place during non-revenue hours. Throughout construction, the entrance and escalators will remain open.

How long will the project take?

Work to install the canopy will begin on November 17, 2025 and will continue until Fall 2026.
