Inauguration 2025 Fare Information

The easiest way to pay for Metro is by adding a mobile SmarTrip card to your phone's wallet. Make sure you add enough fare to cover a roundtrip.
Add funds to your mobile SmarTrip before arriving in case cell service is overloaded or use Metro station Wi-Fi to connect to the internet. Newer smartphones will still let you tap in/out of the Metro system even if your battery dies if you have the feature enabled.
- Physical SmarTrip cards will be available at all stations.
- Everyone aged 5 and over needs a SmarTrip card to enter and exit stations, whether it's a physical card or in your mobile wallet; age 4 and younger ride free with each fare-paying adult.
- One-way rail fares range from $2.25 - $6.75 depending on the distance traveled. Consider the easier 1-Day Unlimited Pass option for $13.50. This includes unlimited rides on bus and rail.
- Normal parking fees apply on Inauguration Day ($3 - $5.20 depending on the location). Add enough value on your SmarTrip card to pay for parking upon exit.
