Metrobus service route changes in MarylandBegin the Week of Sept. 7

Schedule adjustments designed to improve service

Several service changes on Metrobus will be implemented on 14 lines in Maryland starting the week of September 7. These changes are in response to customer requests and will eliminate overcrowding on some routes, shorten passenger waits between trips on others, and improve transfer connections between buses and trains. They are listed below.

Buses at Prince Georges Plaza Shopping Center. Due to the construction of a new store on the site of the former bus loop on the grounds of the Prince Georges Plaza Shopping Center, bus operations were discontinued on May 15 on eight lines. Schedules were not changed at that time due to time constraints. Customers are now advised to consult new timetables for the following routes: College Park Line, Route 86 only; Greenbelt-Twinbrook Line, Route C4 only; Prince Georges-Silver Spring Line, Routes F4 and F6; Prince Georges-Langley Park Line, Route F8; Riggs Road Line, Route R2 only; Greenbelt-Fort Totten Line, Route R3; and Queens Chapel Road Line, route R4.

Marlow Heights-Temple Hills Line, Routes H11 and H12 only. In response to requests for later H11 service, the H12 trips leaving the Naylor Road Metrorail station at 7 and 7:30 p.m. will be changed to H11.

New Hampshire Avenue-Maryland Line, Route K6. The first southbound weekday trip, which now starts at White Oak five minutes ahead of the second southbound trip, will be changed to start at New Hampshire Avenue and Merrimac Drive in Langley Park. The times that this trip passes bus stops between New Hampshire Avenue and Merrimac Drive and Fort Totten Metrorail station will not change. Veirs Mill Road Line, Route Q2. Service late Friday night, early Saturday morning, late Saturday night, and early Sunday morning will be adjusted. The destinations of some northbound trips will change. Please consult the new timetables.

Georgia Avenue-Maryland Line, Routes Y7, Y8, Y9. Leisure World has requested that on weekdays the number of trips diverting one block off of Georgia Avenue to serve this facility directly be significantly reduced. Only one stop, inside the security gates at the clubhouse, is affected. Consequently, the number of such trips will be cut by one-half with those now operating as Y8--but which will no longer serve Leisure World--being redesignated as Y9 to reflect that distinction. Half the current Y7 trips in the weekday rush will no longer serve Leisure World. Those that do not will retain the Y7 route number to match the weekend pattern of service, when Y7 bypasses Leisure World. The existing weekday Y7 trips that will continue to serve Leisure World will be redesignated Y5. There will be no change in the weekend trip patterns, except that weekend route numbers will be adjusted where necessary to be consistent with those used on weekdays.

The following routings will apply: 1) All Y5 and Y7 trips will serve the Norbeck Park & Ride Lot; 2) All Y5 and Y8 trips will serve Leisure World; 3) All Y8 trips will serve Leisure World, but not the Norbeck Park & Ride Lot; 4) All Y9 trips will serve neither. The times that most weekday trips pass stops south of Leisure World will not change.

Passengers are advised to check the new timetable for slight adjustments to weekday times at stops between Leisure World and Olney on trips that will no longer serve Leisure World.
