Half of all Metrorail trains will be eight cars next week

All trains to stop at the end of station platforms during testing

For two days next week, half of all Metrorail trains will be 8-cars long on each of its five rail lines and all trains will stop at the end of each station platform as a test of its ongoing power, system, track and rail car enhancements leading up to Inauguration Weekend.

On Tuesday, January 13, and Wednesday, January 14, Metro will operate 50 percent eight-car train service during morning and afternoon peak periods on the Red, Orange, Blue, Yellow and Green lines. During the off-peak periods, all trains on all rail lines will operate with eight cars trains.

“As we prepare for Inauguration Weekend, we are testing our power supplies by operating 50 percent eight-car train service systemwide next Tuesday and Wednesday,” said Dave Kubicek, Metro’s Assistant General Manager for Metrorail. “We are asking all of our rail riders to pay special attention to train announcements, and to check the >next train= signs to see when an eight-car train is arriving at their station so they can move to the far ends of the platform to access all cars,” said Kubicek.

Last month, Metro tested 50 percent eight-car train service on the Green and Yellow lines and this week tested the enhanced eight-car train service on the Red, Blue and Orange lines.
