Bus stops to be relocated during construction of Silver Spring Transit Center

On Sunday, September 28, bus stops, taxis and the Kiss & Ride area outside Silver Spring Metrorail station will be relocated to make way for construction of the Silver Spring Transit Center.

The facility will be built on the site where current Ride On and Metrobus operations take place, in an area bordered by Colesville Road, Wayne and Ramsey avenues and the Silver Spring Metrorail station.

The new Silver Spring Transit Center will be a multi-level complex in downtown Silver Spring and will feature a new bus terminal, improved access to Metrorail, MARC trains and the Kiss & Ride and taxi areas, a new commuter store and enhanced pedestrian and vehicle access. The facility is scheduled to open in the fall of 2010.

During construction of the project, bus stops, the Kiss & Ride area, short-term parking, Zipcars, taxis and bicycle lockers will be relocated as follows:

· Metrobus stops will be located on both sides of Wayne and Dixon avenues.
· Ride On bus stops will be located on Wayne and Dixon avenues and Bonifant Street.
· VanGo bus stops will be located in the area where Wayne Avenue meets north-bound Colesville Road, on the west side of Georgia Avenue between Wayne Avenue and Bonifant Street and at the intersection of Colesville Road and East-West Highway.
· The Kiss & Ride area, short-term parking and Zipcars will be located in Montgomery County Parking Garage 55 at 1105 Bonifant Street.
· Taxis will be located at the bottom of Ramsey Street, near its intersection with Wayne Avenue.
· Bicycle racks will be relocated to the north side Colesville Road entrance to Silver Spring Metrorail station.
· MARC riders will be able to access the Silver Spring Metrorail station from Bonifant Street throughout the project. However, they should pay close attention to signs because the location will change at various points during construction.

Directional signs and display maps will remain posted throughout the area to help riders find Metrobus, Ride On and VanGo bus stops. For a map that shows where bus stops are relocating and more information about the project, visit www.montgomerycountymd.gov/SSTC.
