Metro service for Thanksgiving, Nov. 23

On Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23, 2023, Metrorail and Metrobus will operate on a Sunday schedule. MetroAccess subscription trips will be canceled on Thursday, November 23; however, customers may make reservations to travel on the holiday.

Metro offers convenient and affordable access to airports and train travel with service to Washington Reagan National Airport on the Blue and Yellow Lines, Washington Dulles International Airport on the Silver Line, and connections to Amtrak via the Red Line at Union Station and Rockville, the Orange Line at New Carrollton, and Blue Line at King St-Old Town. 

Customers are encouraged to use Metro's trip planner tool to plan travel by bus or rail for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 24, Metrorail, Metrobus, and MetroAccess will operate normal weekday service. 

Customers should be advised that this Saturday and Sunday, Red Line trains will operate every 20 minutes between Shady Grove and Glenmont, with a 10-minute frequency between Grosvenor and Glenmont. Weekend rail service across the rest of the system will be near-normal. For full details, visit wmata.com/weekend.

Thanksgiving service information 

Metrorail

Trains will operate from 7 a.m. until midnight, serving all Metro stations as follows: 

Red Line Trains every 6 min until 9:30pm then 10 min

Orange Line Trains every 10 min until 9:30pm then 15 min

Silver Line Trains every 12 min until 9:30pm then 15 min

Blue Line Trains every 12 min until 9:30pm then 15 min

Yellow Line Trains every 8 min

Green Line Trains every 8 min

First and last train times vary by station. Check the station page for additional information. 

Normal weekday fares will be in effect and parking will be free at all Metro-owned parking garages and surface lots. 

Metrobus

Metrobus service will operate on a Sunday schedule. Routes that normally operate on Sunday will run; all other routes will not operate on the holiday. Schedules vary by route, check timetables for route-by-route information.

MetroAccess

MetroAccess customers who wish to travel on the holiday may make a separate reservation online or call 301-562-5360 (TTY 301-588-7535). Scheduled recurring "subscription trips" are automatically canceled.
