Red Line construction expands to Gallery Place, Judiciary Square starting Friday through weekend only

**12/21 - Updated route for Shuttle 1 to include stop at Gallery Place

Metro is reminding customers major construction on the Red Line will be extended beginning on Friday, Dec. 22 through Sunday, Dec. 24, with no Red Line service to Gallery Place and Judiciary Square stations, in addition to Farragut North and Metro Center currently. Free shuttle buses will run frequently between the affected stations.

During this time only the Farragut North and Judiciary Square stations will be closed, with trains serving 96 of Metro’s 98 stations and normal service on all other lines. Customers may access Metro Center via the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines and Gallery Place via the Yellow and Green lines. Red Line service will be available at Union Station to and from Glenmont and between Shady Grove and Dupont Circle.

Over the three-day period, Metro will repair the deteriorated concrete ceiling above both tracks, dating back to the Metro system's earliest days. While completing these critical repairs, work crews will also complete other essential maintenance work to avoid future service disruptions.

The work will begin on Friday, when ridership is typically 15 percent lower than the midweek peak Tuesday-Thursday, and historically 40 percent lower overall during this time of year.

During construction, the Red Line platform at Metro Center will be unavailable and the entrances on G Street NW at 11th and 13th streets will be closed to accommodate equipment and work crews. Customers may access the station at either entrance on 12th Street NW.

In addition, Friday and this weekend only, there is no access to the upper-level Red Line platform at Gallery Place, and the entrance at 9th & G streets NW will be closed. Customers may use the entrances at 7th Street NW at F or H streets.

Metro is offering several travel alternatives, including free shuttle buses providing frequent service downtown, as well as available service via partner transit agencies on MARC, VRE, Commuter Bus and DC Circulator.
