Free Metro rides after midnight on New Year’s courtesy of Miller Lite®

Good news, New Year’s revelers: Not only will Metro stay open until 3 a.m. after the ball drops this New Year’s Eve, but all rides on Metrorail and Metrobus will be free after midnight, courtesy of the Miller Lite Free Rides® program.

Miller Lite Free Rides® will be offered on all Metrorail trips beginning after midnight—regardless of distance—when using a SmarTrip card. (Each rider will still tap his or her card to enter and exit the system, but trips originating after midnight will be free.)

On Metrobus, riders should simply show their SmarTrip card to the bus operator to ride for free after midnight.

This is the second year that Metro has partnered with Miller Lite Free Rides® as part of their national public service initiative to promote responsible commuting. Miller Lite has also partnered with transit authorities in Chicago, Minneapolis, Denver, Phoenix and Dallas to encourage responsible drinking and travel alternatives by offering more than five million safe rides during similar free-ride promotions in past years.

Miller Lite Free Rides® will reimburse Metro for the cost of all trips taken from midnight until the system closes.

Metro encourages those choosing Metro to “ride responsibly” by ensuring that they can safely navigate stations and remaining aware of potential hazards in the transit environment. Any rider who is having trouble using the system safely (e.g. unable to maintain balance) should consider alternate means of transportation. Additional Metro Transit Police officers will be on duty on New Year's Eve to help ensure the safest trip possible for all riders.
