Final call: Local students have until March 4 to submit Earth Day artwork for bus

Earth Day Metrobus

In honor of Earth Day, Metro’s Art in Transit program is inviting K-6 students from Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia to submit artworks that highlight and celebrate the significant role of public transportation in fostering a sustainable environment and healthy communities.

The art will be prominently featured on three specially-themed Earth Day Metrobuses that will travel the region.

Students are asked to illustrate Metrorail, Metrobus, and MetroAccess' role in protecting our environment, combatting climate change, and supporting sustainable and livable communities. Let your creativity shine as you showcase why these eco-friendly transportation options are truly remarkable.

Each applicant may submit one original piece of artwork which can be a drawing, print, collage, or painting. It must be horizontally oriented on a standard 8.5" by 11" paper size.

The deadline for submission has been extended until March 4.

You can submit a high-quality photograph in JPEG or JPG format and complete the form online here. By submitting artwork, parents and/or guardians agree that it can be reproduced for this call and any associated promotional material, including social media.

Metro will select fifteen submissions total, five from each jurisdiction, and the art will be displayed on three specially-designed buses as part of our celebration of Earth Day in April.

Metro had 240 submissions last year. Take a look at this video from 2023:
