Metro service information for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Jan. 15

In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday, January 15, Metrorail will operate on a Saturday holiday schedule with modified service on the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines, Metrobus will operate with Saturday Supplemental service, and MetroAccess customers may make a reservation to travel on the holiday; however, MetroAccess subscription trips will be canceled. 

Customers traveling on the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines are encouraged to visit wmata.com/MLKweekend for full service information and travel alternatives on the holiday. 

Metro employees will honor Dr. King by joining the National Day of Service through the Fill-A-Bus Campaign with the Capital Area Food Bank. This is Metro’s sixth year collecting food and monetary donations and volunteering to drive out hunger and food insecurity in the National Capital Region. 

Service Information 

Metrorail 

Metrorail will operate from 5 a.m. until midnight with Saturday service frequencies, with modified service on the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines due to planned construction:

  • Buses replace trains between Foggy Bottom-GWU and Arlington Cemetery/Clarendon stations.
  • Rosslyn and Court House stations closed. 
  • Free Express and Local Shuttle Bus Service will be provided to all affected stations. For shuttle maps and other travel alternatives, visit wmata.com/MLKweekend.
  • Blue Line trains operate in two segments: between Franconia-Springfield and Arlington Cemetery every 12 minutes (daytime) and 15 minutes (evening); and between Foggy Bottom-GWU and Downtown Largo every 10 minutes (daytime) and 15 minutes (evening).
  • Orange Line trains operate in two segments: between Vienna and Clarendon every 10 minutes (daytime) and 15 minutes (evening); and between Foggy Bottom-GWU and New Carrollton every 10 minutes (daytime) and 15 minutes (evening).
  • Silver Line Silver Line trains operate between Ashburn and Clarendon only, every 10 minutes (daytime) and 15 minutes (evening). 
The Red, Yellow, and Green lines will operate with normal Saturday service frequencies

Metrobus 

Metrobus will operate on a Saturday Supplemental schedule. Click here to view timetables. 

MetroAccess 

MetroAccess customers will be able to travel on the holiday, however, subscription trips will be canceled. Customers may make a separate reservation to travel on the holiday online or by calling 301-562-5360 (TTY 301-588-7535). 

Fares 

Normal weekday fares will be in effect. 

Parking 

Parking will be free at all Metro-owned parking lots and garages.
