Metrorail Station Pedshed and Bikeshed Atlas 2.0

Metrorail Station Pedshed and Bikeshed Atlas 2.0

Many elements influence how riders access Metro by walking, bicycling, or using micromobility devices like e-scooters. Physical barriers such as highways, rivers, and disjointed street and sidewalk networks can make accessing stations difficult, dangerous, or essentially impractical for some customers. "Traffic stress" from real or perceived safety issues on roads can deter bicycle travel.

Pedsheds and bikesheds allow us to visualize the areas around Metrorail stations and assess which provide the best access to pedestrians, bicyclists, and micromobility users.

The Metrorail Station Pedshed and Bikeshed Atlas 2.0 builds off the first Metrorail Station Walk Shed Atlas published in 2015 by adding low-stress and total bikesheds for each station, along with updated pedsheds. Findings from the atlas can help Metro and its jurisdictional partners identify and prioritize pedestrian and bicycle projects across the region.
