Three Green Line stations reopen on Monday after successful repairs

On Monday, Sept. 1, three Green Line stations - Branch Av, Suitland, and Naylor Road - will reopen on time and on budget after track work and station repairs.

Crews completed work on radio and fiber optic cables, renewed sections of rail and elevated track structures, signal system upgrades, and switch replacements. In addition, the stations have upgraded customer amenities including replacement platform edge lighting, improved lighting in stations, and updated station signage.

Metro's work included replacing:

  • 1,259 crossties
  • 793 fasteners
  • 109 studs
  • 56 thermite welds
  • 7,187 linear feet of rail
  • 722 insulators
  • 37 third-rail coverboards
  • 15,930 linear feet of torquing

Customers took more than 250,000 trips on the shuttles during construction. We thank them for their patience as we completed this major construction that will keep Metro service safe, frequent, and reliable into the future.
