Metro advises customers of weekend track work on Orange and Red lines
Customers at some Red and Orange line stations may experience longer wait times for trains due to track work this weekend, August 19-20. Crews will be performing safety critical maintenance to replace rails, renew joints where the two rails are fastened together, and pour new concrete grout pads that support the tracks.Over the weekend, trains will single track between Stadium-Armory and Cheverly stations, reducing service on the Orange Line to every 24 minutes. On the Red Line, trains will single track between Grosvenor and Medical Center with trains operating every 20 minutes between Friendship Heights and Shady Grove stations.
During single tracking, trains must share one track, taking turns going through a construction zone.
Trains will arrive more frequently, on average every 5-6 minutes, between Rosslyn and Stadium-Armory, and every 8-12 minutes on average between East Falls Church and Rosslyn where lines overlap.
On the Red Line, most stations will still have frequent service. Trains will operate between Glenmont and Friendship Heights every 10 minutes, with every other train continuing to Shady Grove.
Customers traveling to/from or through the single tracking zones are encouraged to allow for additional travel time.
