Metro restores MetroAlerts after vendor outage
Metro customers will once again be able to get email and text message alerts about bus, rail, and MetroAccess delays and service disruptions.
The MetroAlerts system went down in February after the host vendor suffered a catastrophic failure that led to a loss of user data and disrupted functionality. No customer data was compromised due to the outage.
Since then, Metro has worked to build a new system to avoid future disruptions.
Customers will be able to:
- Receive text or email alerts – or both;
- Choose preferred train lines, stations, or bus routes;
- Select specific time periods and days of the week based on personal travel patterns.
All customers will need to sign up for a new account at wmata.com/MetroAlerts, regardless of past subscription status.
We thank our customers for their patience as we worked to restore this critical service used by more than 70,000 people across the region.
