Media Advisory: Metro officials to provide update on SafeTrack Surge 1

Metro Board Chair Jack Evans and General Manager/CEO Paul J. Wiedefeld will brief reporters on today's rail service during SafeTrack Surge #1 today at 4 p.m. outside Foggy Bottom Metrorail Station.

SafeTrack is an accelerated track work plan to address safety recommendations and rehabilitate the Metrorail system to improve safety and reliability by significantly expanding maintenance time on weeknights, weekends and midday hours and includes 15 "Safety Surges" - long duration track outages for major projects in key parts of the system. This morning's rush hour was the first commute impacted by around-the-clock single tracking between East Falls Church and Ballston.

The plan will accomplish three years' worth of maintenance work in one year.
