Media Advisory: Metro GM/CEO and officials from Alexandria to host news conference on SafeTrack Surge 3 and 4

Metro General Manager/CEO Paul J. Wiedefeld will host a news conference Tuesday at 1 p.m. to discuss final preparations and travel advice for SafeTrack Surges #3 and #4, which involve line segment shutdowns between National Airport and Braddock Road and National Airport and Pentagon City, significantly reducing service on the Blue and Yellow lines for 14 days.

SafeTrack is an accelerated track work plan to address safety recommendations and rehabilitate the Metrorail system to improve safety and reliability by significantly expanding maintenance time on weeknights, weekends and midday hours and includes 15 "Safety Surges" - long duration track outages for major projects in key parts of the system. The overall objective of SafeTrack is to bring Metrorail tracks and structures into a state of good repair by accomplishing three years of maintenance work in one year.
