Metro adds new, limited-stop rush-hour bus service along Rhode Island Avenue

Beginning Monday, March 20, Metrobus customers traveling along Rhode Island Avenue can take advantage of new limited-stop bus service running from Eastern Avenue to Franklin Square in Downtown DC. The MetroExtra G9 will run weekdays during morning and evening rush-hour periods (from 6-9 a.m. and 3-7 p.m.) with buses arriving every 15 to 20 minutes.

The new route makes limited stops, offering an efficient and convenient commuting option for customers traveling during peak hours. The G9 is also the only local bus that offers a transfer-free ride from the Woodridge neighborhood (adjacent to Mt. Rainier) to Downtown Washington.

On Monday morning, Metro GM/CEO Paul J. Wiedefeld, DC Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie, D.C. Councilmember and WMATA Board Chair Jack Evans, DDOT Director and WMATA Board Member Leif Dormsjo, and Executive Director of Rhode Island Avenue Main Street Kyle Todd will host a media event to introduce the route and take a ride on the new G9 on the first day of operations.

MetroExtra G9 is the result of many studies and community outreach conducted among Rhode Island Avenue's local businesses and area residents who've seen rapid growth in their community.

The service is funded by the D.C. Council through its FY 2017 budget and is expected to serve over 1,000 people per day.
