Metro Statement in response to NTSB report on East Falls Church derailment

Metro's investigation is coming to a close and we expect to brief the Board on our actions at the Safety Committee meeting on December 15. It's important to note that in the wake of the derailment, interlockings were added to the SafeTrack scope, and Metro's proposed preventive maintenance program addresses many of the issues raised in the report such as smoke and fire incidents. Also, since the derailment, Metro has engaged and embedded six FRA-trained track inspectors to improve Metro's inspection process, provided refresher training courses for track inspectors by University of Tennessee faculty, contracted outside experts to survey all system track conditions, and we are rewriting Metro's track inspection manual.
