Visitor refunds for Smart Trip cards

Refunds for unused Stored Value on Smart Trip cards are available if you live 100+ miles outside the Washington, D.C. area.
To initiate a refund, contact Smart Trip customer service. You will need to provide proof of residence.
After initiating your request, mail your Smart Trip card to the address below to receive your refund. Processing time may vary depending on when proof of residence and the Smart Trip card are received. Once processing is complete, the refund check can take 3–6 weeks to be delivered.

Bulk Smart Trip refunds
Smart Trip cards ordered in bulk can be refunded if they are unused. Partially used cards cannot be refunded.
To initiate the refund, return the bulk order of your Smart Trip cards, the original invoice (yellow copy), and proof of payment to:
