Metro Transit Police is seeking decisive and intelligent decision-makers with the discipline, dedication, and initiative to make our system a safe and welcoming space. As a full-fledged police department within a unique environment that stretches across the DMV, we serve and protect millions of bus, rail and Access riders every year.
Qualifications, pay, and benefits
To qualify to become a MTPD officer, you must pass a rigorous background check, meet physical agility requirements, and demonstrate psychological readiness. You must also have a valid driver’s license.

If you qualify and are hired, you’ll be eligible for a competitive starting salary and excellent benefits. If you have prior law enforcement experience, you may be able to enter MTPD service with a higher starting salary.
Pay
We offer a starting salary of $74,505 for entry-level police officer positions. Applicants with prior law enforcement will be offered a starting salary that is commensurate with their years of experience to a maximum of five years. The maximum starting salary is currently $91,906. Applicants with military, corrections and higher education may also qualify for higher entry level salaries not to exceed $91,906.

Training
We hold our sworn officers to the highest standards, and our multi-hour training programs ensure that all MTPD employees receive comprehensive instruction to ensure they are prepared to perform their roles with the skills necessary to be effective, and with respect for the public we serve.
