Eligibility Requirements

To qualify to become a MTPD officer, you must meet basic criteria and pass a background check and a physical agility test.

Basic criteria

In order to qualify for employment with MTPD, you must have: 

• United States citizenship 
• A high school diploma or GED
• A valid U.S. driver's license
• No conviction for a felony or serious misdemeanor
• An honorable discharge, if you served in the military
• No recent drug use

Background check

If you meet the basic criteria, we will conduct a rigorous background investigation which includes:

• References
• Driving history
• Credit history
• Criminal history
• Employment history
• Oral board Interview
• Truth verification test
• Psychological evaluation
• Medical examination
