Filing a police report

To file a police report, call Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) communications 24 hours a day at 202-962-2121.

Please click on the link below to submit an online request for a police report to MTPD. The information you provide will be sent directly to the Police Records Department for follow-up action. Alternatively, requests for an MTPD police report may also be submitted by mail using this form. Police reports are released via U.S. Mail or email once the request has been processed by the Police Records Department.

Note:

  • Third party requests require a notarized release of information authorization form and a photocopy of the involved party’s valid state identification (i.e. driver’s license).
  • Only a parent or legal guardian may obtain a copy of a police report involving a minor (juvenile).

U.S. Mail

  1. Submit a “Request a MTPD Police Report” form
  2. Include a photocopy of valid state identification (example: driver's license).
  3. Include a check or money order payable to "WMATA" for $10.00.
  4. Include a self-addressed envelope, with postal stamp (necessary postage) that indicates where the report will be sent via U.S. MAIL (United States Postal Service).
  5. Send all contents to the below address:

  1. Submit a "Request a MTPD Police Report" form
  2. Include a photocopy of valid state identification (example: driver's license).
