Metro 50-year journey

The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History has partnered with Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) to celebrate and evaluate the value MEtro brings to the region. Metro offers visitors a carefree and car free way to explore the region. Whether traveling by Bus or Rail, Metro provides access to discover many of the museums, parks, and sites linked to 1776 and the Revolution. 

Together, we developed a special Metro system map listing Revolution-related destinations here in Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland, which will be displayed on an immersive wall mural at the museum. 

For the past 50 years, America's Metro System has moved the masses, solidifying the DMV as one of the most traveled tourism destinations as residents and visitors alike marvel at the nation's capital. Its a place of discovery where our history is on full display. Our museums foster as environement of learning and conversation, giving each person permission to ask questions, quietly consider new information and challenge societal norms.
