West Falls Church Joint Development project
Updated: 7/24/2026
Advisory Effective: Oct 14, 2025 – Aug 1, 2027
Parking impacts
As of July 27, 2026, the south surface parking closed permanently to allow for construction activity. Customers should utilize the onsite garage for their parking needs.
On November 17, 2025, Metro began construction on the West Falls Church Joint Development project. The project will transform underutilized land into a vibrant, mixed-use, transit-oriented neighborhood featuring improved station area accessibility and transit facilities for people who choose to ride Metro.
This project is the result of a multi-year planning and public engagement process that will enhance transit ridership, improve accessibility, and contribute to regional economic growth. The development will take place over four phases, with the first phase consisting of transit infrastructure improvements, and later phases consisting of construction of residential townhomes, apartments, offices, retail, and open green spaces.
Customer impacts
Metro will communicate with customers about impacts through tactics such as informational and directional signage issued 14 - 30 days in advance to socialize these changes.
Customer impacts from July - December 2026:
- As the project moves into the next phase, traffic patterns will be adjusted to reflect work needs for the construction project. Drivers and pedestrians should follow all road signage.
- The south surface parking lot will be permanently closed. Customers may instead seek parking at Dunn Loring station.
- The parking garage's first floor reopens fully on July 27 (east parking entrance/exit closed, new Intrepid Alley garage entrance will be the only one open from July 27 - August 3).
- Falls Church Dr (west) entrance to the garage opens August 3 to provide a second entrance/exit to the garage.
Customer impacts from December 2026 - August 2027 (dates subject to change):
- Bus stops will relocate to a new bus area along the new Amber Crescent Way (north of current bus loop location).
- The south surface parking lot will remain closed.
- The majority of the north surface parking lot will be closed.
- Temporary Kiss & Ride area will open in the north parking lot.
- Updated traffic patterns will be established as Park Seville Dr and West Falls Station Blvd road construction begins (through current south parking lot/bus loop area).
The following improvements are included as part of this project:
- Transformation of underutilized Metro parking lots into mixed-use, walkable communities with the potential for over one million square feet of office, retail, and residential space including a commitment to affordable housing units.
- New and improved transit infrastructure including a streamlined bus loop, new bus shelters, and a reconfigured Kiss & Ride for customer use.
- New tree-lined streets that connect Metro with existing and new communities around the station and Route 7.
- Improved circulation and connectivity for people walking, using a wheelchair, riding a bicycle, transferring from a bus, or driving a car to access the station.
- New site lighting, security cameras, and license plate recognition (LPR) technology in the garage.
- Improved site stormwater management using low impact development tools.
