Metro Partners with Georgetown and Catholic Universities to Expand U-Pass Program

Georgetown University’s Capitol Campus and The Catholic University of America are joining a growing network of colleges and universities in the region that partner with Metro to provide eligible students with affordable, convenient transportation throughout the academic year.

Starting this fall, eligible students at Georgetown University's Capitol Campus and at Catholic University will have access to Metro's U-Pass program, which offers unlimited rides on Metro Rail and Metro Bus for a fixed price. The program provides an affordable transportation option, helping eligible students connect to classes, employment opportunities, internships, and recreational destinations throughout the region.

"Expanding the U-Pass program is another important step in making public transportation more accessible for students across our region," said Metro General Manager and CEO Randy Clarke. "Reliable, affordable transportation connects students to opportunities that support their success. We're proud to partner with these universities to make it easier for students to choose Metro and explore everything the region has to offer."

Earlier this year, Metro’s Board of Directors approved a major expansion of U-Pass to reach more students across the region as part of the Strategic Transformation Plan. This introduced new pricing and participation models that made it easier for colleges and universities to join, increasing the number of students who have access to affordable and reliable transit daily.

The partnership between Georgetown and Catholic Universities and Metro aligns with Metro's goal of enhancing the transportation experience for customers across the region, a key focus of DMVMoves.

Students at Georgetown and Catholic eligible for the U-Pass program will receive their cards after distribution by the universities before the semester begins. They also can add their U-Pass to their Apple Wallet and turn on Express Transit mode for a seamless tap and go experience.
