Final Call: Metro’s Art in Transit Encourages Young Local Artists to Submit ‘Earth Day’ Artwork for Bus Display

This is a reminder for young Rembrandts and Picassos across the District, Maryland and Virginia to submit their best drawing, print or photograph, celebrating the role public transportation plays in protecting our environment, combatting climate change, supporting sustainable and livable communities by Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at 11:59 p.m.

This is an opportunity for local creatives to have their original artwork showcased on a Metrobus in honor of Earth Day.

Kids in kindergarten to 6th grade are invited to participate. The special Earth Day artwork will be included in a bus wrap and seen on buses in service across the region.

“Metro’s Art in Transit Earth Day art submissions are a great way to engage young artists in our region by using their creativity to show how public transportation is good for the Earth by providing cleaner, sustainable and environmentally friendly transit options,” said Metro General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Randy Clarke. “We are excited to see their art come to life on a Metrobus for everyone to see.”

All students, public, private or home-schooled, are invited to submit one original piece of artwork. There is no entry fee for the submission.

For each jurisdiction - Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland - one artwork will be chosen. The selections will be announced during Earth Day festivities during the month of April. Metro will wrap a bus incorporating all three of the chosen artworks.

ENTRY INFORMATION:

Submit a high-quality photograph in JPEG or PDF format with name, title of work, school name and grade and email to metroart@wmata.com.

There is no entry fee for the submission.

By submitting an artwork, parents and/or guardians agree that the artwork can be reproduced for the purpose of this call and any associated promotional material, including social media.

Parents and/or guardians of the student whose work has been selected will be required to execute a written release authorizing Metro to use the selected artwork and the student’s name.
