Public Hearing Staff Report
Public Hearing Staff Report on the Proposed Changes to Braddock Road Metro Station is available for review and comment from August 10, 2026 – August 20, 2026. The document addresses comments on the proposal received at the public hearing held on April 20, 2026, as well as comments received during the public comment period. This comment period on the Public Hearing Staff Report is your opportunity to make sure your comments were accurately characterized in the Staff Report and send clarification if desired. Comments on the Public Hearing Staff Report will be accepted until 5 p.m. on August 20, 2026.
Braddock Rd Public Hearing
The comment period has ended. The public comment period began at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2026, and ended at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026. Public feedback will be provided to Metro’s Board of Directors in Summer 2026 as part of the final decision-making process.
The Project Site is an approximately 3.6-acre, Metro-owned property on the east side of the Metro Station, located within the City of Alexandria, Virginia.
The site includes a five-bay bus loop and a 21-space Kiss & Ride lot. There are 65 bicycle racks, 12 bicycle lockers, and a Capital Bikeshare station on-site. There is no existing Park & Ride facility.
The Modifications include:
- Reconfiguration of the bus loop; and
- Closure of the off-street Kiss & Ride facility.
The changes to the transit facilities will be constructed in coordination with Metro’s future joint developer, which will be selected through a future solicitation.
In accordance with the WMATA Compact, the Modifications require an Environmental Evaluation (“EE”) to assess the potential effects of this action on the human and natural environment in terms of transportation, social, economic, and environmental factors.
Following the public comment period, all public comments will be provided to Metro's Board of Directors for final review and inclusion into Metro's Mass Transit Plan.
If the project moves forward and a joint developer is selected, the public can also comment during the development review process. The City of Alexandria government will be responsible for evaluating the mixed-use development's scope and impact on public facilities, including the evaluation of the development's green space, traffic impacts, stormwater design, housing affordability, and any non-Metro parking.
Metro's Compact public hearing process only addresses changes to the existing transit facilities at Braddock Rd station and does not speak to the eventual construction of the development.
