Temporary Detour: Red Line Shutdown Wisconsin Ave and Western Ave

Advisory Effective: Jul 9, 2026 – Sep 7, 2026
Beginning on Thursday, July 9, 2026, until Monday, September 7, 2026, buses will detour due to the Red Line shutdown between North Bethesda and Friendship Heights stations. This is necessary to provide space for the rail replacement shuttles and to reduce congestion on Wisconsin Ave and Western Ave at Friendship Heights Station.
The following routes will detour:
C83 Barnaby Woods-Friendship Heights
- Buses will operate between Barnaby Woods and a temporary bus stop located on Western Ave, NW between 44th St and Wisconsin Ave.
D96 Massachusetts Ave-Bethesda northbound towards Bethesda
- Buses begin detouring on Western Ave, NW at 44th St (servicing a temporary stop located on Western Ave, NW between 44th St and Wisconsin Ave), resuming regular route On Wisconsin Ave at S Park Ave.
D96 Massachusetts Ave-Bethesda southbound towards Potomac Park
- No detour required.
