Rosslyn Escalator Replacement
Updated: 4/7/2026
Advisory Effective: Jan 1, 2024 – Jun 30, 2026
In January 2024, Metro began a major capital project replacing the four entrance escalators and four platform escalators at Rosslyn Station. The eight escalators will be replaced with brand-new ones that are more durable and reliable. The escalators are being installed as part of an ongoing Escalator Replacement Project to replace 139 escalators across the Metro Rail system by 2028.
How will this work affect my trip?
- Eight escalators at Rosslyn Station will be replaced throughout the course of the project.
- Typically, one platform escalator and one entrance escalator will be closed for replacement at a time, although there may be instances when one or three escalators are closed at a time
- The station entrances and elevators will remain open throughout construction.
- Train service will not be impacted by the escalator replacement work.
- Barricades at the entrance and on the platforms will be installed for construction equipment storage and work zones. For your safety, avoid work zones and follow all posted signs to open elevators.
How long will the project take?
The replacement of all eight escalators is expected to be completed in June 2026. Note: the end date was changed because of a modified work plan to maintain the safety of our customers during construction and to adhere to fire codes.
