Capitol South Station Canopy Installation

On August 17, 2026, Metro began Phase 4 to install the canopy above the escalators at Capitol South Station.
Metro is installing canopies as part of an ongoing project to replace or install nine canopies across the Metrorail system by 2027. Canopies shield customers and escalators from weather conditions, helping to protect the life, longevity, and reliability of our escalators.
How will this work affect my trip?
Work on the canopy will take place during non-revenue hours. Throughout construction, the entrance and escalators will remain open.
How long will the project take?
Work to install the canopy began on August 17, 2026 and will continue until Spring 2027.
