New parking garage at New Carrollton opens Sunday, bus loop and Kiss & Ride to relocate to garages
Published: 04/25/2025
The project is part of Metro’s ongoing joint development at New Carrollton and will create space for future development adjacent to the station.
Changes will happen in two phases.
Beginning Sunday, April 27:
- The new P1 Garage will open
- The existing outdoor bus loop will relocate to the first level of the new P1 Garage. The current bus loop will close and be home to future development.
- The surface Kiss & Ride lot (quick pick up/drop off area) will relocate to the first level of the existing P2 Garage.
- The daily parking entrances and exits to the existing P2 Garage will be temporarily closed for about two months for reconfiguration of the exit and parking upgrades.
- The top two levels of the existing P2 Garage with 400 parking spaces will remain open to accommodate additional parking demand. It can be accessed from P1 Garage via the vehicle bridge on Level 7.
- Current reserved spaces will be moved to the second floor of P1.
During Phase 1, parking capacity will increase by 550 spaces. Once both garages are open this summer, total parking capacity at New Carrollton will be 3,593 spaces.
Beginning Monday, April 28:
- Construction of a new plaza at the Metro and garage entrance
- Reconfiguration and upgrades to the existing garage
That work will take about two months.
During the transition, customers may experience delays, congestion, and changes to travel patterns upon exiting. For your safety, please review and follow all posted signage and construction notices.
