Join Metro to help ‘Fill-A-Bus’ to feed families in the National Capital Region

Metro customers and the community are invited to drop off donations in the fight against hunger as part of fifth annual food drive

In the new year, Metrobuses will be picking up more than just customers. Metro is inviting customers to join Metro employees in collecting food to ‘Fill-A-Bus’ to help drive out hunger and food insecurities in the region.

This is Metro’s fifth year supporting the Capital Area Food Bank and first year inviting the public to join the agency by filling a bus with unopened, nonperishable food items. Customers can drop off the unopened, nonperishable food items at designated Metro stations starting on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

The ‘Fill-A-Bus’ locations and times are as follows:

Tuesday, Jan 3, 2023

• Anacostia Station, W2, W3 bus stop, outside station on Howard Road, 6 to 10 a.m.

• Ft. Totten Station, Bus Bay K, 2 to 6 p.m.

Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023

• Friendship Heights Station, Bus Bay K, 6 to 10 a.m.
• Silver Spring Station, Bus Bay J, 2 to 6 p.m.

Monday, Jan. 9, 2023

• Pentagon City Station, 7A & 22A bus stop at South Hayes & 12th streets next to the Nordstrom entrance, 6 to 10 a.m.
• Tysons Station, Bus Bay G, 2 to 6 p.m.

You can also provide a monetary donation to the Capital Area Food Bank through Metro’s ‘Fill-A-Bus’ campaign. Go online to donate. Every $1 donated provides two meals.

“Metro remains committed to our partnership with the Capital Area Food Bank in helping families with food insecurities,” said Metro General Manager and CEO Randy Clarke. “For the past four years, Metro employees have collected thousands of boxes of food, canned goods and monetary donations to help families experiencing food insecurity. We know with the support of the community we can ensure more families across the region have access to a nutritious meal.”

Metro employees’ donations have provided more than 27,000 meals to our neighbors in need through food donations and financial contributions and with the support of our customers, in the coming year, we can reach our goal of providing 32,000 meals to families.

All locations are conveniently located near grocery or retail stores. Bring your donations from home or stop at the store on your way to Metro and drop off your donations before taking the train or bus.

On Monday, Jan. 16, Martin LutherKing, Jr., National Day of Service, items collected from ‘Fill-A-Bus’ will be delivered to the Capital Area Food Bank. There, Metro employee volunteers will assist with unloading, sorting and packing food boxes to be distributed to families.

‘Fill-A-Bus’ is Metro’s official day of service.
