Accessibility across the Metro system
Updated: 5/14/2026
The entire Metro system — including all railcars, buses, platforms, and stations— is fully accessible. This means that most people with disabilities can use Metro services.
Rail station accessibility
All Metro Rail stations are designed to provide step-free access from the street to the train.
Each station includes:
- Escalators
- Elevators from the street to the mezzanine
- Elevators from the mezzanine to the platforms
This ensures there is always a step-free path available from the street to the train.

Bus accessibility
All Metro Bus vehicles have ramps or lifts. The bus operator will:
- Help you get on and off the bus safely
- Secure your wheelchair or mobility aid during the ride
Most bus stops allow the bus to pull directly up to the curb for easier boarding. However, some stops may be blocked by parked cars, which may require you to navigate a curb to board.

Metro Access paratransit service
If your disability prevents you from using Metro services, you may be eligible for Metro Access, the paratransit system.
Metro Access service includes:
- Van pickup at your home or at locations near a rail or bus route
- Drop-off at your destination within the service area
