Regional Transit Services
Many other regional transit services connect to Metro Rail and Metro Bus, and many of them accept Smart Trip, too — so you can travel easily throughout the region. With some services, if you use Smart Trip you’ll receive free or discounted transfers to and from Metro Rail and Metro Bus.

Regional transit centers
There are several regional transit centers served by Metro Bus.
Rail connections
Three different rail services serve Washington, DC and connect with Metro.
MARC
MARC connects Baltimore and Frederick County to Washington Union Station. MARC is operated by the Maryland Department of Transportation.
VRE
Virginia Railway Express (VRE) connects south and west Virginia suburbs to Alexandria, Arlington, and Washington Union Station. It is operated by the Northern Virginia and Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commissions.
Amtrak
Amtrak, America’s national rail passenger system, runs frequent service north of Washington along the Northeast Corridor and south to Richmond and beyond. Some people commute into Washington via Amtrak and connect to Metro at Washington Union Station.
Vanpools
Vanpool services are also available, and can be used with Smart Benefits.
Commuter bus services
These companies provide scheduled commuter service to Metro Rail stations, to Washington Union Station, or to downtown Washington.
