New Carrollton Joint Development
Overview
The New Carrollton joint development will create mixed-use development to transform New Carrollton Metro Station into a 2.3 million square foot, mixed-use transportation hub and gateway to the National Capital Region and Northeast Corridor.
History
Built in 1983, the station is home to Metrorail, Metrobus, Amtrak, Maryland Area Regional Commuter (MARC) Train Service and Prince George’s County TheBus. In the future, the station will also serve the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Maryland Transit Administration’s (MTA) Purple Line.
In the early 2000s, Metro and Prince George’s County embraced a unified vision to transform New Carrollton Metro Station – which serves the county’s largest employment center – into transit-oriented development. In 2015, Metro and Urban Atlantic entered into a joint development agreement to develop Metro’s property at the New Carrollton Metro Station in New Carrollton, Maryland.
